Marcel Pinas is a visual artist from Moengo, Suriname, whose work explores Maroon identity through Afaka script, found materials, and large-scale installations. He founded the Kibii Foundation in 2009 to preserve and develop Maroon cultural heritage.

To preserve, develop, and share the cultural heritage of the Maroon communities of Suriname through arts, education, and community development.

A thriving Moengo where Maroon cultural heritage is celebrated, contemporary art flourishes, and young people have the skills and confidence to shape their future.

Timeline

  1. 2009

    Foundation Established

    Stichting Kibii founded by Marcel Pinas in Moengo.

  2. 2010

    CAMM Opens

    Centre for Arts and Music Moengo opens its doors.

  3. 2012

    Boipili Launched

    Silver jewelry line inspired by Maroon culture begins production.

  4. 2013

    First Moengo Festival

    Inaugural edition of the Moengo Festival focuses on music.

  5. 2014

    Recording Studio

    Alcoa Foundation funds the construction of a recording and rehearsal studio.

  6. 2016

    Art Park Expansion

    Marowijne Art Park grows with new installations by international artists.

  7. 2019

    Last Pre-COVID Festival

    Visual Arts edition draws thousands of visitors to Moengo.
